A linear motion machine that uses a vertical reciprocating motion of a knife to slot a keyway and a hole. The slotter machine, like the planer, uses a single-edged tool (slot knife) to cut the workpiece, but the planer is a horizontal layout and the slot is a vertical layout. The productivity and precision of the slotting machine are relatively low, and slotter machine is often used for processing the inner hole keyway or spline hole in single or small batch production, and can also process flat, square or polygonal holes, etc., and is often replaced by a milling machine or a broaching machine in mass production. However, when machining the inner keyway without a through hole or a barrier shoulder, only the slotting machine is used.
